Intermediate Spanish Conversation and Composition I
This course helped to strengthen Spanish speaking skills, with an emphasis on vocabulary, pronunciation, intonation, and comprehension. The course helped to improve accuracy in written assignments composed in Spanish.
SPAN 3140
Hispanic Linguistics
This course focused on the theory and practice of linguistics applied to Spanish, allowing for a deepened knowledge of phonetics, morphology, syntax, semantics, and linguistic change. The course also explored the phenomenon of Spanish and English convergence (Spanglish) and its relevance to Latinx communities in the United States.
SPAN 3150
Spanish for Health Professionals
This course focused on Spanish medical concepts and terminology. It allowed for practice in conducting clinical scenarios in Spanish, which was beneficial for students looking to work in a  healthcare setting. The course also helped in developing an understanding of the perceptions of health as they relate to things like traditional medicine and the influence of religion on medicinal practices in Latinx communities.
SPAN 4180
Technical Spanish for Health Management Professionals
Technical health communication course in Spanish with emphasis on managerial and business aspects of the international health industry. Helped to develop understanding of processes related to healthcare provision, decentralization, and aspects of quality, accessibility and coverage in Latin American countries.
Sample Work
The SPAN 3050 sample work is an assignment that prompted the composition of a short essay in Spanish discussing something of importance to my life and/or childhood. The work describes a family home I grew up in and the impact it had on my perception of self.
The SPAN 4180 sample work demonstrates writing proficiency through an extensive literature review and analysis of the Colombian healthcare system.
